What’s the TL;DR?
Pueraria Mirifica is a pretty simple ingredient. It is a powerful phytoestrogen, about 70% as powerful as estradiol. It’s primary purpose in NBE is to stimulate the estrogen receptors in the breast.
Dosage and timing
Dosage of PM will depend on one’s pre-existing estrogen levels. If estrogen levels are low, then a higher dose of PM may be warranted. Often the best idea is to start with a low dose, such as 250mg or 500mg, and later move to 1000mg, or 1,500mg after assessing how your body will react.
Remember that estrogen needs to be balanced by progesterone. The more PM you use, you will need more progesterone cream, or progestins like birth control to balance it out.
As for timing, PM should only be used in the follicular phase. However, this isn’t a hard set rule, and the range can be experimented with. For example, late luteal until ovulation isn’t out of the question. Most people however will use PM from the end of menses until the day of ovulation.
Further details
PM is of the most powerful phytoestrogens, along with hops and licorice. It’s active ingredient miroestrol is twice as strong as Estrone (E1), yet 70% as powerful as Estradiol (E2).1 Due to its relatively weak nature, it down-regulates overactive estrogen receptors such as in the case of cancer,2 and up-regulates underperforming estrogen receptors that have been suppressed by over exposure to estradiol.
Tolerance: It’s not uncommon for women to have a poor reaction to PM, as it can be pretty strong. Those who are estrogen dominant often report breast shrinkage when using PM, and have found hops to be a better alternative. Women who are starting with larger breasts are often able to tolerate higher PM dosages.
